Bolting out of the booth to rescue him, she saves his life, only for him to fall into a coma. Lucy works every holiday, because she has no family of her own, and one Christmas Day, she watches Peter get mugged and topple onto the tracks. Unlucky in love, she becomes obsessed with Peter Callaghan (Peter Gallagher, all chin, lips, and eyebrows), a handsome attorney who boards the elevated train at her stop every day, but she lacks the confidence to speak to him. Over twenty-five years later, it’s still a delightful holiday watch - not so much because of its absurd plot but because of the accumulation of details that elevate it above that silly chain of events.īriefly, While You Were Sleeping is the story of Lucy Moderatz (Bullock), a quirky, friendly young woman who works as a fare booth attendant for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Actors in while you were sleeping movie#The movie immediately became a rom-com classic, celebrated by critics and audiences alike. Released in the spring of that year, only ten months after Speed made Sandra Bullock a huge star and a reliable box office draw, While You Were Sleeping cemented Bullock as America’s sweetheart of the moment and nabbed her a Golden Globe nomination - as well as nearly $200 million in profits for Buena Vista Pictures. But few, if any, ever come close to the sweet perfection of 1995’s While You Were Sleeping. Entire production companies exist just to crank out the kind of formulaic, Pinterest-friendly rom-coms that appear on the Hallmark Channel and other basic-cable zero zones every year. SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama While You Were Sleeping begins airing on September 27.Romantic comedies and Christmas go together like milk and cookies. There’s a past relationship between Lee Jong-seok and Lee Sang-yub, and I’m curious to see how the loner and the popular kid of the prosecutor community know each other. He’s shown smiling even while visiting his past workplace, and greeting everyone with concern and care. He’s a gregarious golden boy, admired and loved by everyone who knows him. Lee Sang-yub’s character was a previous investigative bureau prosecutor like Lee Jong-seok, but he left that career for a more lucrative and successful one as a prosecution-specialist lawyer. On the other hand, we have Lee Sang-yub ( This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair) who is the complete opposite of Lee Jong-seok. It’s no wonder that his bureau teammates, who consist of Lee Ki-young ( The King Loves), Bae Hye-sun ( Falsify), Min Sung-wook ( School 2017), and Go Sung-hee ( Jealousy Incarnate), just don’t like him. In another still, everyone stares at him with omg-did-he-just-really? looks on their faces. While his fellow colleagues are engaged in pre-meal prayer, he reaches over them to grab food. As we can see from these stills and his colleagues’ annoyed looks, he doesn’t seem to get it when it comes to human relationships. His character is a prosecutor in the investigative bureau, who simply can’t seem to make friends. This supernatural legal romance is centered around a story about a woman (Suzy) who sees tragic futures in her dreams and the prosecutor (Lee Jong-seok) who tries his best to prevent those futures from happening. In dreamy character posters for SBS’s upcoming While You Were Sleeping, Lee Jong-seok ( W-Two Worlds) thinks, “No one would be able to believe… the future I changed,” and almost in reply Suzy ( Uncontrollably Fond) thinks, “There’s no one else… but you.” 29 SeptemLee Jong-seok’s awkward social skills in While You Were Sleeping by tineybeanie ![]() Invisible cities italo calvino exerpt10/13/2023 ![]() ![]() In the third city Laudomia, it talks about the dead and the unborn. Not to mention that they are cut off from the world which will eventually result in their lack of growth also. That, or eventually, they will run out of materials to build anything else. One day the ‘mountain’ could fall, burying the people in all the things the discarded. The ‘trash’ is then stacked into a mountain that surrounds the city. The people in the city are so worried about having the newest and greatest thing, that each day, they throw everything from the previous day so they can start fresh. It’s their own selfishness that will one day result in its destruction. In the second city Leonia, their destruction is the opposite. In order to grow and become better, we must accept change. It becomes stagnate without growth of some kind. If you think about, it people continue to take and reuse, the city can never grow. In a way, it doesn’t seem that bad, but if you look at it in the grand scheme of things, it becomes pretty awful. The people take and steal things that do not beling to them in order to use them for something else. In the first city Clarice, the people that live there are at fault for the destruction of their city. And I think that this piece really illustrates that. It’s not always a illness that spreads or a natural disaster that wipes out all life. I think the small excerpts do a great job at breaking down the different ways that humankind can lead to its own demise. I really enjoyed the idea that each city was the cause for its own destruction. In the end, it is always interesting to see how one single excerpt can bring froth different ideas from different individuals depending on their perspective and how we can always learn and appreciate the positives or negatives in of them.I really enjoyed Italo Calvino’s excerpts from Invisible Cities. This way, the city of Diomira has inspired us to think in different ways and interpret its beauty according to our whims and fancies. We can see the she concentrates on the first half of the paragraph, highlighting the silver domes, the tower and the golden cock in her painting but chooses not to portray the visitor or what he saw when he came to the city.Īfter seeing both our interpretations of the same paragraph from the book, we make the following observations-Įven though both paintings depict the basic aspects like the silver domes, the difference lies in the fact that in my drawing I chose to hero the visitor and what ‘ he’ saw and felt when he entered Diomira but the artist in her painting chose to hero the city of Diomira in itself and its beauty as seen by anyone. This is an interpretation of the same excerpt by an artist Lucia Ghirardi. So I decided to choose only a single lane of Diomira which he entered and saw, complete with the silver domes, bronze idols, multicolour lights and the woman on the terrace. #Invisible cities italo calvino exerpt movieHere I wanted to have the visitor, mentioned in the second half of the excerpt, in the centre similar to a protagonist in a movie poster with the other activities happening around him. This is my interpretation of Italo Calvino’s “Invisible city” of Diomira. I have chosen the work of an artist called Lucia Ghirardi, which I describe in the latter part. Our task thereupon was to interpret this paragraph and illustrate it, and also to compare it with an illustration of any other artist. ![]() But the special quality of this city for the man who arrives there on a September evening, when days are growing shorter and the multicolored lamps are lighted all at once at the doors of the food stalls and from a terrace a woman’s voice cries ooh!, is that he feels envy toward those who now believe they have once before lived an evening identical to this and who think they were happy, that time.” All these beauties will already be familiar to a visitor, who has seen them also in other cities. “Leaving there and proceeding for three days toward the east, you reach Diomira, a city with sixty silver domes, bronze statues of all the gods, streets paved with lead, a golden cock that crows each morning on a tower. One such city was the city of Diomira which he describes in the following fashion. But all of them turn out to be a description of the city Venice. Marco Polo describes 55 imaginary cities through prose poems to glorify the extent of Kublai Khan’s empire. It is framed like a conversation between the emperor Kublai Khan and Marco Polo. The book is a collection of descriptions of cities given by Marco Polo and it ignites ones imagination as we read through it. We were given an excerpt from Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities”. Through this blog, I try to bring about my interpretations of a story that I read, as an assignment for Communication class in my college. ![]() Vantajay sacred gold egglocke10/13/2023 ![]() ![]()

And I’m sure most, if not all, the people watching were like, ‘What the hell is he talking about?’ So in a way, it’s nice to give a little bit of a history lesson. And it’s sort of funny when you throw out certain lines, whether it was my French Open line or when I played someone at the US Open in ’83. Also, I’m big with the older age groups, and perhaps they were trying to get a slightly older demographic as well. And I heard from Mindy that her parents were fans, and people have said over the years, ‘They all love you in India, you’ve got to come here.’ So that was attractive. Even though I love being at my tennis academy… it’s good to do something that’s different and not so physical.Īlso, I’ve gone to India where tennis is actually pretty high up on the ladder as far as popularity. It’s tough to feel like you can go out there and do yourself proud. Once you learned more about the conceit for the show, which is loosely based on Mindy’s own childhood, what was it that drew you in? Because, as you say, you’re not exactly the obvious choice.Īs fortunate as I’ve been to do something that I love for such a long time, I’m not getting any younger. #Who narrates never have i ever netflix series#I knew of her, but I certainly was not anticipating that she’d be like, ‘I have this idea for a narrator in a series I’m doing for Netflix.’ I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ But a lot of times you hear these things and then it doesn’t really come to fruition, but amazingly enough, this one did. What was it like meeting Mindy at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar party?Īs were walking in, Mindy was walking out, and she’s like, “Oh my God, I can’t believe it’s you - I have this idea!” And that’s where it started. Why the hell is John McEnroe doing this?’ And by the end,, ‘Hey, Mindy made a good choice.’ That actually worked out in a bizarre way. I was hopeful people would look at this and go, ‘Whoa. At first, I wasn’t sure what that entailed, and then I realized there were a lot more lines than I anticipated. Obviously Mindy’s got a great history as a writer and actress, but it was definitely a left-field shot for me to be narrating a whole series. ![]() Around that time, they decided to put it out in April and all of a sudden this pandemic happened. I was asking Mindy when it would come out as recently as January, and I don’t think Netflix had put a firm date on it then. The timing of this was totally coincidental. How does it feel to have this hit show out on Netflix during a pandemic when everyone is at home? Riding out the pandemic at his Malibu, California, home, McEnroe caught up with Variety to discuss his pop culture resurgence, the dream narrating gig and where his allegiances lie - Team Paxton or Team Ben. “This was an incredible opportunity to see if I could bring some humor and something different to what I normally do and what people were expecting for a narrator,” says McEnroe. Kaling and McEnroe met in a Vanity Fair Oscar Party meet cute, where the “Late Night” producer pitched the tennis great, whom she’d grown up watching, on the idea of narrating her new Netflix series. Though the seven-time Grand Slam champion has transitioned into a commentating career for ESPN and BBC in recent years, his volatile rep rendered him the perfect spiritual match for “Never Have I Ever’s” hot-headed protagonist Devi - a pairing only the show’s co-creator Mindy Kaling, whom McEnroe affectionately calls “The Boss,” could have dreamed up. ![]() The 61-year-old’s explosive temper on the court brought him notoriety at the height of his career in the late 1970s and 1980s. ![]() Worm harness bottom bouncer10/13/2023 ![]() However, the purpose of the harness is to attract the walleye to find the worm. Several chapters of the classic book, Lunkers Love Nightcrawlers, cover the long term care and feeding of nightcrawlers.Ī worm harness is nothing more than one or more hooks combined with one or more devices to attract fish. In the event you wish to buy crawlers in bulk, they are available from several mail order sources, including Cabelas. When the ice melts, merely add another piece or two.Īn alternative I recently learned was to bathe a day’s worth of crawlers at once, then place them in the now empty Styrofoam containers with ice. In addition, you will be in and out of your cooler less often. The ice water plumps them up and washes the dirt off so your boat floor stays cleaner. Once I am in the boat and ready to fish, I put some ice and lake water in a flat bottom plastic bowl and add four or five crawlers. The ice will not freeze them in their containers and will keep them cool and lively. On the day I intend to use the crawlers, I pack the boxes in an ice chest with ice. If you are not the cook, label the boxes “worms” to avoid screams and other domestic difficulties. Crawlers will last several weeks if left alone in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator. Next important tip: As soon as you get home, place the worm boxes in the refrigerator and keep them there until the fishing trip. Temperature or stock rotation disasters do happen. However, I always check the contents before I leave the store. ![]() I buy at several locations and find the overall quality quite good. Typically, the containers are Styrofoam or cardboard and are filled with potting soil or mulch. Grocery stores, convenience stores, and even Walmarts sell them. In the last several years nightcrawlers have become a major farmed and/or harvested crop. They aerate the soil, they help break down leaves and other dead matter to soil, and they are so valuable to growing plants that people buy them to put in their gardens.īrown trout guides below Bull Shoals dam say they use red worms because they are “more natural looking in the water.” The real reason is stocker rainbows that can’t and won’t leave the nightcrawlers alone. The paper making technique developed in Japan around 805 to 809 was called nagashi-suki (流し漉き), a method of adding mucilage to the process of the conventional tame-suki (溜め漉き) technique to form a stronger layer of paper fibers. These seem to have been mostly separate traditions, until the 20th century.īy the 7th century, paper had been introduced to Japan from China via the Korean Peninsula, and the Japanese developed washi by improving the method of making paper in the Heian period. Before that, paper folding for play was known by a variety of names, including "orikata" or "origata" (折形), "orisue" (折据), "orimono" (折物), "tatamigami" (畳紙) and others. Until recently, not all forms of paper folding were grouped under the word origami. ![]() The Japanese word origami itself is a compound of two smaller Japanese words: "ori" (root verb "oru"), meaning to fold, and "kami", meaning paper. The principles of origami are also used in stents, packaging, and other engineering applications. Traditional Japanese origami, which has been practiced since the Edo period (1603–1867), has often been less strict about these conventions, sometimes cutting the paper or using nonsquare shapes to start with. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be of different colors, prints, or patterns. The best-known origami model is the Japanese paper crane. The small number of basic origami folds can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs. The term "origata" is one of the old terms for origami. ![]() In Japan, ceremonial origami is generally called "origata" ( ja:折形) to distinguish it from recreational origami. On the other hand, in the detailed Japanese classification, origami is divided into stylized ceremonial origami (儀礼折り紙, girei origami) and recreational origami (遊戯折り紙, yūgi origami), and only recreational origami is generally recognized as origami. Origami folders often use the Japanese word kirigami to refer to designs which use cuts. Modern origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. In modern usage, the word "origami" is often used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. Origami ( 折り紙, Japanese pronunciation: or, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper" ( kami changes to gami due to rendaku)) is the Japanese art of paper folding.
